Frequent Questions

Does the Short Line bus schedule allow me time to finish the entire Orientation agenda?

The bus schedule does not allow time for you to complete the Orientation program including registering for your fall classes.  If you are arriving by bus, it will be necessary for you to stay overnight an additional evening in order to be able to participate in the entire day's program.  Please contact the Orientation Office by phone: (607) 587-3114 or e-mail: orientationatalfredstate [dot] edu.

Is orientation mandatory?

It is very strongly encouraged, although it is not mandatory.  There is an abundance of information that needs to be passed on to new students with orientation being the primary way of providing this information to them. In addition, students will schedule classes and have their pictures taken for their campus ID cards. The $100 orientation fee will be assessed whether or not the student participates in orientation.

Is the orientation fee part of my tuition bill?

Yes. All full-time new and transfer students (excluding internet students) will be assessed a mandatory $100 orientation fee on their tuition bill. Optional guest, sibling, and accommodation fees should be processed online using BannerWeb when you register for orientation.
