Summer Overnight Experience

Stay the night prior to your scheduled orientation session.

New students during the overnight experience after partyThe Alfred State summer overnight experience offers you a unique opportunity to meet your future classmates, get a taste of college life, and stay overnight in a residence hall. Orientation leaders (current students) will guide you through your overnight experience and assist in your acclimation to Alfred State. You will have the opportunity to learn about life as a college student, find out about campus traditions, and discover the many resources and services available to you. Begin your life’s work and your college adventure.

Parents - don’t miss an opportunity to speak with administrators about what awaits your student. In a small venue like this, you will have the attention you need to get those individual questions answered. Save time the morning of orientation by checking-in the night before.

The overnight experience is optional and limited to 110 students in addition to your family members/guardians. Students and guests will be accommodated in separate residence halls. All overnight guests will be provided with linens, pillows, blankets, and towels. You may wish to bring a fan and umbrella with you as Alfred weather can be unpredictable.

Overnight sessions include The Alfred State Experience, The Inside Story (families/guests), Home Away from Home (students), walking tour of campus, and an evening social (students can enjoy a chance to socialize with other new students). All sessions offer the opportunity to ask questions of our dedicated staff and orientation leaders. Registration/check-in begins at 5 p.m.

Please note if you are arriving by bus from the New York City area (other than the NYC bus trip July 14): You will need to plan to stay two nights on campus due to orientation and bus scheduling. The second night is at no additional cost. The college does not supply bus transportation. For information on ticket costs and arrival/departure times, etc., please contact the Alfred Travel Center at (800) 263-3167. Please also call our office for accommodations at (800) 425-3733 or (607) 587-3114. The college does not provide meals the second night, however, there are eating establishments within walking distance.

Deborah Goodrich, associate vice president for Enrollment Management, answers questions for parents at a previous parent social.
