Spend your first night back hanging out on the Green listening to our one-man band, Ari Herstand, who can make it sound like an entire band is on stage with him with a couple of instruments and some tech savviness. If that isn’t enough, stop by Pat’s Ice Cream Truck for some free frozen deliciousness; visit our caricaturist, Eric Jones; or stop by the photo booth with friends or even Alfred State’s one and only, Orvis, instead of taking those selfies.

Are you the creative type? Want to do something relaxing? Come to the Green Space outside SLC and go make something. It's college get-in-touch-with-your-inner-grade-school, and try something you’ve seen on Pinterest! It’ll be a great gift for someone back home, or a new friend on campus! And when you’re done, there will be a photo booth to goof around in and commemorate your first week.

What are “Leader-shops”? They’re a series of “Well-being” opportunities for incoming new students who are looking to get involved and meet others with similar interests. Each workshop has been identified within a Well-being sphere to amplify your experience here on campus and build upon your soft skills. Soft skills are a key component in the attainment of students’ leadership skills and successful employment.
Stop by for fun or begin to track your involvement on your co-curricular transcript. All Leader-shops are open to students but some require that you RSVP by emailing Leadership@alfredstate.edu. You can also stop by the location stated to see if the Leader-shop has availability, but RSVP’ing will ensure you a seat.

Part of being empowered as a woman knows how to defend yourself. Join Modern Arnis’ fourth degree black belt, Sensei Marion Kellogg, as she hosts a Leader-shop just for the ladies and some of the men and women from Modern Arnis’ and Martial Arts Club. They will teach you some basic self-defense moves. Who knows… you may even join our Martial Arts Club this semester!

3 - 4 p.m.Engineering Design Challenge, career(SLC, Small Events Space)
The Robotics Club will be hosting a challenge during this Leader-shop. It is going to be a timed, 45-60 minute challenge where participants are given various materials in order to construct a functioning BLANK (you think we are going to tell you ahead of time?!). Points will be awarded at the discretion of our organization as a whole where extra bonus points will be allotted to teams who meet various extracurricular criteria; for example, calculating and predicting the distance that the marshmallow will travel, bug correction, as well as overall design style. If time allots, a debrief session will be conducted to speak about various opportunities in STEM-related careers paths, as well as what we do as a club to help better the institution and community.
