ASC Awards “Pay It Forward” Scholarships

The Alfred State College Nursing Department continued its "Pay It Forward" philosophy through the awarding of its third annual round of  "Pay It Forward" scholarships, established during the fall 2005 semester and presented to this year's recipients, senior nursing students Carla Chamberlain, Andover; Laura Lindsey, Olean; and Michael Otugh, Brooklyn (originally from Nigeria), at semester's end.  Each student received $150 and a copy of the original signatures of those who initiated the scholarship, class of 2005.

Nurses' Pinning CeremonyAlfred State College nursing students celebrated their accomplishments the Friday before commencement by attending the annual nurses' pinning ceremony.

During the ceremony, the Florence Nightingale Candle is lighted, honoring the founder of modern nursing. The pinning ceremony is the culmination of the years of study and hard work graduating nursing students have invested in preparation for their chosen career.

Pay it Forward (JT Robertson)

JT Robertson Alfred State College nursing students welcomed Jon Thomas (JT) Robertson, 11, of Cuba, to one of their classes early in the fall semester to help them kick off the caring project in nursing. The caring project is an outgrowth of the "pay it forward" concept (from the movie by the same name) which promotes the practice of helping others, while expecting nothing in return.
