Local eateries will once again participate in Alfred State College's "Taste of Wellsville," this year, Saturday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.  Restaurants and other food purveyors will showcase their tasty signature dishes in "miniature form" at stations around the Applied Technology Campus.

Tickets for the food (50 cents each-food costs may range from one ticket to several) may be purchased on the day of the event. Ten percent of the proceeds will benefit the Friends of Allegany County Arc.

This year's event will be a "green" theme.  As many businesses are becoming more involved with renewable energy and the reduction of their carbon footprints, ASC feels it appropriate to show off some of its accomplishments in this sustainability effort such as the campus' photovoltaic panels which were erected during the summer and are up and running.

Tours of the campus, featuring interactive demonstrations in each area, will be conducted.  One of the new activities this year will be Excavator Bowling which should prove to be a lot of fun for all.

Again this year, the ACCORD Corp. will be performing car safety seat testing for anyone wishing to have a certified car seat technician check a parent's car seat to make sure 1) it fits his/her child properly, 2) there is no recall on the seat, 3) it isn't too old to be used, and 4) it is properly installed in the parent's vehicle. Walk-ins are always welcome; however, appointments for this testing are appreciated. Appointments may be made in advance by calling Allison Mosher at (585) 593-0792, ext. 1217.

Alfred State College nursing students will be on site performing blood pressure checks and offering health and wellness advice.

Immediately following the event at 2 p.m., drawings will be held for the raffle items. Proceeds from the drawings will benefit a scholarship fund for Applied Technology students. Tickets are available at the Brooklyn Avenue campus (Culinary Arts Building dining room) and from Applied Technology faculty and staff; cost is $1 each.  You need not be present to win.
