New students during the Overnight Experience After PartyThe Alfred State College Summer Orientation program offers you an opportunity to meet some of our faculty/staff members, choose your classes, stay overnight in a residence hall, and most importantly, meet your new classmates, some of whom will become life-long friends. Orientation Leaders (outstanding upper-class student leaders) will guide you through your Overnight Experience to prepare you for your transition into Alfred State College students. You will have the opportunity to learn about life as a college student, find out about campus traditions, and discover the many resources and services available to you. Begin your life’s work and your college adventure, where you are central - at Alfred State College Summer Orientation!
Deborah Goodrich, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, answers questions for parents at previous parent social. Parents, don’t miss an opportunity to speak with faculty and administrators about what awaits your student. In a small venue like this, you’ll have the attention you need to get those individual questions answered. Save time in the morning by pre-registering and paying on-line. By doing so your orientation registration packet will be awaiting you in your room.
Alfred State College is interested in creating a unique orientation experience for incoming students. The ASC Overnight Experience is optional and limited to 75 students (plus your parents/guardians). You will be accommodated in one of our residence halls – Peet or Braddon Hall. Guests will be provided with linen, pillows, blankets, and towels.

In collaboration with Orientation 2009, the ASC Outdoor Recreation Club (ORC) is offering an "Overnight Mountain Bike and Camping Trip" during the July Orientation sessions (stay tuned for more information). Any student interested in this trip can provide their own personal camping equipment, but ORC can supply any gear you may need for no additional charge.
Students may opt to bring their own sleeping bag, tent, and mountain bike; however, if you need equipment, we will be contacting those who sign up for this trip to see if we will need to provide the following: sleeping bag, tent, insolite pad, ground cloth, and/or duffle bag. If you need a mountain bike, we will rent one for you at no additional charge but please realize that rental bikes are not full-suspension bikes.
All meals will be cooked over an open fire with the help of everyone on the trip.
Mountain biking will be through wooded trails and could be 10-15 miles in length (mostly down hill runs).
Students who successfully attend and participate may be eligible for elections to the Outdoor Recreation Club Council in the fall.
