Enough with the chicken wings and comfort foods -it's time to get your palate ready for spring. Alfred State College will host New York's first Lettuce Tasting event on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in the new Student Gathering Place on campus. "Lettuce Indulge," hosted by Alfred State's Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA), will give students and members of the community the chance to sample COSA's produce while giving their taste buds an education in greens.

WINS FutureBound Career DayAlfred State College's Office of Career Development hosted its annual "WINS" (Women in Non-traditional Studies) FutureBound Career Day late last month.

This annual career exploration day is held for 10th grade girls interested in learning more about non-traditional occupations and careers (non-traditional occupations are defined as those with fewer than 25 percent female

Alfred State College held its 10th annual New York State postsecondary SkillsUSA competition on March 29, 2008. Sixty-four students from Alfred State College, SUNY Delhi, and the Culinary Institute of America (Hyde Park) competed in 12 vocational and leadership skill areas.

The construction management technology program at Alfred State College has been granted reaccreditation by the board of trustees of the American Council for Construction Education.  The program has maintained the stringent standards of ACCE and has proven to the board, through a visiting team of its peers and industry practitioners, that the program is worthy of reaccreditation.

LettuceThere may be snow on the ground and a nip in the air, but the cropping season is well underway at Alfred State College.  Thanks to new greenhouse and lighting technologies, the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Technology, located in the central Southern Tier, is growing vegetables year-round.

The Alfred State College outdoor track and field team remains in the top ten of the latest NJCAA Division III poll.  The men are currently ranked #5 while the women are ranked #6.

Anthia SmithTiffany McLaughlinAlfred State College sophomores Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) and Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) have been named NJCAA Division II All-Americans.  Smith was selected to the 2nd team while McLaughlin was a 3rd team selection.

The campus community is saddened to learn of the death of Anthony Carino, who died Friday evening in a Rochester-area hospital.  Cause of death has not been released by the hospital.

Anthony was a senior in Alfred State College's architectural technology program. 

College officials-on behalf of the entire campus community-extend their deepest sympathy to Anthony's family and friends.

The Alfred State College lacrosse team scored 12 unanswered goals to erase a 7-5 halftime deficit to en route to a 19-8 victory over Cayuga CC on Tuesday evening.  The win improves the Pioneers to 4-1 (3-0 Region III).

The Alfred State College softball team ran their winning streak to four games with a doubleheader sweep at Erie CC.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 5-7 on the season with 23-1 and 5-2 victories.
