Eight students at Alfred State were recently inducted into the Psi Beta honor society, an organization which promotes interest in the study of psychology at two-year colleges.
Alfred University and Alfred State are co-sponsoring a two-day visit to the community and campuses by scholar/lecturer Dr. Donald B. Kraybill, internationally recognized for his work on Anabaptist (radical movement of the 16th-century Reformation that viewed baptism solely as an external witness to a believer's conscious profession of faith, rejected infant baptism, and believed in the separation of church from state, the shunning of non-believers, and in simplicity of life) groups.
Valerie Nixon named interim president of Alfred State, Deborah Goodrich named interim vice president for Administration and Enrollment, and Kandi Geibel named interim director of Admissions.
The 14th Annual Alfred State Regional Science and Technology Fair will be held concurrently on Friday, April 12, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Orvis Activities Center gymnasium on the Alfred campus.
Alfred State will be hosting “Project Prom Dress” on Saturday, April 20 in the Pioneer Lounge, Pioneer Center, on the Alfred State campus from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This event is for high school girls in the area who need a formal dress for prom season. Guests are welcome to come and ‘shop’ for a donated dress and leave with one of their choice at no cost to them.
The forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Room 215 of the Engineering Technology Building and is open to the public. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Engineering Technology Building.
Alfred State is hosting Human Services Awareness Day on Thursday, April 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Allegany Room of Central Dining Hall on the Alfred campus. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in Lot No. 8 on the Alfred State campus.
A team of four Alfred State sport management students has been selected by the College Sport Research Institution (CSRI) to compete in the 2013 Undergraduate Student Case Study Competition in Chapel Hill, NC, on April 17.
Approximately 900 students from Region I BOCES (Board of Cooperative Education and Services) districts encompassing Western New York and the Southern Tier, competed in the 24th Annual SkillsUSA Region I Leadership Conference and Skills Olympics March 5 at Alfred State.
Alfred State has been named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, one of the highest honors a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement.
