The Alfred State College volleyball team won the opening game versus Niagara CCC 25-23 but were slowed down by poor serving and passing and fell in the next three, 20-25, 17-25, 23-25. The Lady Pioneers fall to 4-5 (3-4 Region III Division III) on the season.
The Alfred State College volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Monroe CC 3-2 in a WNYAC match-up in Rochester on Tuesday evening. ASC won the first game 25-21 but fell 17-25 and 16-25 to fall in a hole before battling back for 25-22 and 15-12 wins.
The Alfred State College volleyball team finished 1-2 at the Mohawk Valley CC Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Pioneers defeated Herkimer CCC 2-0 (25-16, 25-20), fell 2-0 to Niagara CCC (16-25, 21-25), and lost a heartbreaker to SUNY Delhi 2-1 (22-25, 25-19, 13-15).
The Alfred State College volleyball team could never get anything going and fell to WNYAC rival Genesee CC on Tuesday evening. The Cougars won 3-0 (21-25, 15-25, and 16-25) to improve to 3-8 on the season while the Lady Pioneers are now 2-2.
The Alfred State College volleyball team won two of three matches at the ASC Quad meet to open up the 2009 season. The Pioneers fell 3-0 (21-25, 20-25, 19-25) to SUNY Delhi, defeated Nassau CC 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23), and Monroe CC 3-1 (29-27, 25-15, 20-25, 25-18).
The Alfred State College volleyball team is ranked #5 in the preseason NJCAA Division III poll released this week. The Lady Pioneers are coming off a 2008 season in which they finished 4th in the nation with a program best 38-4 record.
Twenty Alfred State College student athletes have been honored with academic awards. Eleven Pioneers were named NJCAA Academic All-American, 13 were named Academic All-Region, and 20 were named Academic All Conference.
Alfred State College standout volleyball player Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) has been named the Western New York Athletic Conference co-senior female athlete of the year. She shares the honor with Lindsay Grace (Monroe CC) and Kari Barmore (Jamestown CC).
The Alfred State College athletic department has published the 2009 fall athletic schedules. Athletes will begin reporting to campus in the middle of August with games beginning the last weekend of August.
