Alfred State College alumni continue to use their education, both for work, for fun, and for charity. Recently, several ASC grads competed in the CANstruction design and build competition, held in Rochester. CANstruction is an international charity created by the Society for Design Administration.
Students enrolled in Alfred State College’s motorsports technology program recently returned from a seven-day field trip to Mooresville and Concord, NC, to get an insider’s view of professional racing.
“Don’s gift will allow us to develop a great land laboratory,” says ASC Dean of Arts and Sciences Dr. Terry Tucker. Holzer agrees: “I’m very enthused – I can see the agriculture program being reborn through Dean Tucker’s enthusiasm and vision. The sun is beginning to shine again on agriculture at Alfred State.”
Auxiliary Campus Enterprises and Services (ACES—the campus dining, vending, and transportation provider) was delighted to learn that the video it prepared for orientation has won the 2010 Outstanding Multimedia/Emerging Technology award from the National Orientation Director’s Association (NODA).

Anderson recently welcomed Wellsville native and ASC class of 1961 graduate Erland (“Erkie”) Kailbourne, retired chairman/CEO of Fleet Bank, and his wife Pauline, to the ceremonial ribbon-cutting of the Pioneer Stadium Guest Box for which Kailbourne made the lead gift
Among the new hires are faculty members Betty Bedner, Sean Haggerty, Dr. Laura McDermott, Cynthia Paxhia, and Dr. Philip Schroeder, and staff members Brandy Avery, Mark Cragg, Joseph Kubinski, Patrick Lesswing, Erica Matteson, Stephen Schnorr, Deena Smith, LeAnne St. Gelais, and Myron Wilson.
Alfred State College will host its annual Homecoming/Family weekend Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 16-19, on the Alfred campus. Hundreds of visitors are expected to converge on campus to reconnect with old friends or visit with their students, perhaps for the first time since dropping them off for the fall semester in August.
