Alfred State College sophomore Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) has been named pre-season 1st team Division III NJCAA All-American.

Athletes Begin to Report this Week

The 2008-09 Alfred State College athletic season kicks off this week as preseason camps open in preparation for the fall seasons. Football, volleyball, men's & women's soccer, and baseball will all report to campus and begin practice by Sunday while the cross country team will begin practicing on Tuesday.

Jerome Named WNYAC Co-Freshman of the Year

Alfred State College volleyball player Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) has been named the Western New York Athletic Conference co-female freshman athlete of the year. Jerome helped the Lady Pioneers to the National Championship Tournament and a 36-6 record.

Athletic Department hands out End of Year Awards

The Alfred State College athletic department recently handed out their end-of-year awards at a ceremony held at college's Lake Lodge.

A-State to Induct Three into Hall of Fame

The Alfred State College athletic department will induct three new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame on January 26. Kathryn Stedman (volleyball & softball), Joseba Sarriegui (cross country & track & field), and Mike Brown (baseball) will be inducted at a brunch ceremony in the Allegany Room of Central Dining Hall and then honored in between games of the basketball doubleheader with Jamestown CC the same afternoon.

Doorley named AVCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year

For the second year in a row Alfred State College volleyball coach Gene Doorley has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Two-Year College Northeast-Southeast Region Coach of the Year. Doorley led the Lady Pioneers to their first trip to the NJCAA National Championships since 1977.

McMahon and Braun Named First Team All-American

Alfred State College sophomores Brianne McMahon (Buffalo/Sweet Home) and Elaina Braun (Waterloo) have been named 1st team NJCAA Division III All-Americans. It is the first time in at least 30 years that A-State has had a 1st team All-American and the first time in school history that two members of the volleyball team were named All-American in the same year.

A New Standard

Alfred State coaches Gene Doorley and Stephanie Sprague with sophomores Elaina Braun, Brianne McMahon, Natalie Gregory, and Shannon Jablonski.For the past thirty years volleyball teams at Alfred State College have been compared to the success of the 1976 and 1977 teams. After two unbelievably successful seasons the standard of excellence of the volleyball program will now be compared to the success of the 2006 and 2007 teams.

Lady Pioneers finish 5th at Nationals

The Alfred State College volleyball team is in action all day at the NJCAA Division III National Championships in Rochester, MN. The Lady Pioneers are making their first appearance in the National Tournament since 1977.
