Alfred State College - Volleyball News
The Alfred State College volleyball team swept all three of their matches at the Adirondack CC Pod on Saturday. The wins improve the Lady Pioneers to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in Region III Division III play.
After dropping the first game, the Alfred State College volleyball team rallied to win the next three to defeat Monroe CC 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-11 in a WNYC match-up. ASC improves to 4-3 and 1-1 in WNYAC play on the season while MCC is now 4-2.
The Alfred State College volleyball team battled tough with Genesee CC in their opening WNYAC match of the season but fell 25-27, 13-25, 25-22, 19-25. ASC is now 3-3 on the season while GCC is 3-10.
The Alfred State College volleyball team finished 2nd as they opened their 2011 season at the ASC Tournament. The Lady Pioneers finished 3-2 on the day and fell in a tight match to Butler (PA) CCC in the finals 2-1.
The field and brackets are set for the 2011 Alfred State College Volleyball Invitational. The Pioneers welcome seven teams to the Orvis Activities Center on Saturday for the all-day event.
Several Alfred State College athletes have earned honors from the NJCAA, Region III, and the Western New York Athletic Conference for outstanding academic achievements. Three Pioneers were recipients of the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement, three more were honored with the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement, 11 were named Academic All-Region, and 15 were named Academic All-Conference.
Alfred State College Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Steve Tyrell has announced that Dr. Daryl Arroyo has been named the new Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Recreation and Intramurals. Arroyo, who succeeds Kathy Feldman, begins his new duties at Alfred State on June 29.
The Alfred State College athletic department handed out the Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Academic awards recently at the college's annual end of year banquet. Cody Dill (Unatego) and Angela Depew (Wellsville) were the recipients of the leadership award, Andy Jones (Milford) and Amber Harding (Fillmore) received the sportsmanship awards, and Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda), Charise Nankivell (Hornell), and Andrea Presher (Prattsburgh) won the academic awards.
The Alfred State College volleyball team raised $1,225 with their "Dig Pink" event on Tuesday, October 19th. The money raised will be donated to the Side-Out Foundation.
Alfred State College sophomore volleyball players Brittany Haines (Salamanca) and Kelley Dumbleton (Warsaw) have been named All-Region. Haines was a 1st team selection for the second time while Dumbleton was named 2nd team.
