The Alfred State College athletic department recently handed out their end-of-year awards at a ceremony held at college's Lake Lodge.

The Alfred State College athletic department will induct three new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame on January 26. Kathryn Stedman (volleyball & softball), Joseba Sarriegui (cross country & track & field), and Mike Brown (baseball) will be inducted at a brunch ceremony in the Allegany Room of Central Dining Hall and then honored in between games of the basketball doubleheader with Jamestown CC the same afternoon.

For the second year in a row Alfred State College volleyball coach Gene Doorley has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Two-Year College Northeast-Southeast Region Coach of the Year. Doorley led the Lady Pioneers to their first trip to the NJCAA National Championships since 1977.

For the past thirty years volleyball teams at Alfred State College have been compared to the success of the 1976 and 1977 teams. After two unbelievably successful seasons the standard of excellence of the volleyball program will now be compared to the success of the 2006 and 2007 teams.

The Alfred State College volleyball team is in action all day at the NJCAA Division III National Championships in Rochester, MN. The Lady Pioneers are making their first appearance in the National Tournament since 1977.

Alfred State College volleyball players Elaina Braun (Waterloo) and Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) were named 1st team All-Region at this past weekend's Region III Division III Tournament. Braun and Jerome along with their teammates have had a banner year winning 35 of 39 matches and qualifiying for the NJCAA Division III National Championships.
