Six years ago Gene Doorley took over an Alfred State College volleyball program that played a very limited schedule and won only a handful of games each season. Today his team is preparing to make their second straight trip to the NJCAA Division III National Championships.

The Alfred State College volleyball team will be the #4 seed in this week's NJCAA Division III Championships. The Lady Pioneers will match up with #5 Hibbing (MN) CC at Noon (CST) on Friday in the quarterfinals.

Alfred State College sophomore Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) was named NJCAA Region III Division III Volleyball Player of the Year, while sophomore Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) and freshman Breanna Horton (Owego Free Academy) were both named All-Region.

It took 30 years for the Alfred State College volleyball program to return to the NJCAA National Championships but with a highly competitive victory over Jamestown CC (30-28, 25-22, 25-13), the Lady Pioneers will return to Rochester, MN for the second straight season. ASC will enter the tournament with a 36-3 mark.

The Alfred State College volleyball team swept Corning CC 25-11, 25-10, 25-8 in the Region III Division III quarterfinals on Saturday. The Lady Pioneers will take on #5 Mohawk Valley CC in the semifinals on Sunday.

The Alfred State volleyball team remains ranked 7th in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll. This is the Lady Pioneers' second consecutive week ranked 7th. Alfred State has spent the entire season ranked in the top 10.

Four members of the Alfred State College volleyball team were named All-WNYAC at this past weekend's conference tournament. Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) and Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) were 1st team selections, Breanna Horton (Owego Free) was named to the 2nd team, and Emily Linn (Portville) was named 3rd team.

For the third straight season the Alfred State College volleyball team will enter the Region III Division III Tournament as the #1 seed. The Lady Pioneers enter the tournament ranked #7 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll with a 33-3 record.
