Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Pat Parker (Queens/Hillcrest) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office.
The Alfred State indoor track & field team had an impressive showing at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational. The Pioneers had numerous athletes finish in the top eight of the competition that featured nine schools.
The Alfred State indoor track & field team had numerous performance improvements at the two-day Bucknell Open. The Pioneers were the lone two-year college in the 16 team field.
Indoor track & field athletes Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) and David Miller (Elmira Southside) have been named the Alfred State Athletes of the Week. Murphy and Miller have had solid showings in the Pioneers first two meets of the season.
The Alfred State College indoor track & field team competed in Geneva, OH at the SPIRE North Coast Open on Saturday. Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) qualified for the NJCAA National Championships with a strong performance in the 800 m.
The Alfred State College indoor track & field opened up their 2012 season with a strong showing at the RIT Tiger Invitational. David Miller (Elmira Southside) highlighted the day by qualifying for the NJCAA National Championship in the pole vault.
During Homecoming 2011, five Alfred State College athletic alumni were inducted into the athletic department hall of fame. Swimmer John Meade, track & field athlete Damian Rodriguez, lacrosse player Matthew Covert, baseball player Joe Greany, and swimmer Ashley Vogl will join the 56 inducted athletes.
Several Alfred State College athletes have earned honors from the NJCAA, Region III, and the Western New York Athletic Conference for outstanding academic achievements. Three Pioneers were recipients of the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement, three more were honored with the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement, 11 were named Academic All-Region, and 15 were named Academic All-Conference.
Alfred State College Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Steve Tyrell has announced that Dr. Daryl Arroyo has been named the new Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Recreation and Intramurals. Arroyo, who succeeds Kathy Feldman, begins his new duties at Alfred State on June 29.
Fifteen members of the Alfred State College outdoor track & field team earned All-American honors at the 2011 NJCAA Division III National Championships held at Pioneer Stadium. All fifteen athletes earned 2nd team honors with 2nd place finishes in their respective events.
