Members of the Alfred State College Dairy Judging Team recently competed in two national contests: one in Harrisburg, PA, and one in Madison, WI. The team members include Stephen Gould, Pavilion, agricultural technology major; Kelsie Brennan, Wyoming, agricultural business major; Brittany Spencer, Perry, individual studies major; and Stephanie Spencer, Perry, agricultural technology major.

Dr. TyrellDr. Steven Tyrell, vice president for student affairs, has been selected to serve on a national task force that will look at developing a unified set of professional standards and knowledge competencies for student affairs professionals. The joint task force will look to unify professional standards that exist in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and the American College Personnel Association – International (ACPA).

BUV TeamThe Alfred State College BUV Team overcame enormous adversity and achieved a second-place finish in the Ninth Annual National Basic Utility Vehicle Competition.

Dr. Richard Kellogg, professor of psychology at Alfred State College, is the author of an article appearing in the most recent issue of Paperback Parade, a quarterly magazine published by Gryphon Books of Brooklyn.  Titled "Philip Wylie's Final Dream," the article notes that author Philip Wylie (1902-1971) was writing about global warming, contamination of our air and water, and the grave risks of nuclear power long before these issues reached public consciousness.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® DayAlfred State College employees once again participated in the annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day in April.  This event is open to employees' children, grandchildren, grandsons, nieces, and nephews between the ages of nine and 15.

Beginning on Wednesday athletes representing twenty-five NJCAA institutions will travel to Alfred State College to participate in the 2009 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The event will feature nearly 350 participants vying for both individual and team honors.

New members of XAEThe EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) staff at Alfred State College recently inducted nine students into the Chi Alpha Epsilon honor society.  Chi Alpha Epsilon recognizes the academic excellence achieved by those students admitted to college via developmental programs.

Brittney BrooksAlfred State College women's basketball player Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named a third team NJCAA All-American.  This is the third straight year a Lady Pioneer has earned All-American honors.
