Alfred State College will participate in the United States Department of Agriculture's Research, Education, and Economics Agency's (USDA/REE) second annual Bio Energy Awareness Days (BEAD II) in Washington, DC, in June. The purpose of the event is to increase awareness and knowledge related to the sustainable production of agriculture-based and natural resource-based renewable energy and the efficient use and conservation of energy for the benefit of rural communities and the nation.

Dr. Richard Kellogg, professor of psychology at Alfred State College, is the author of an article appearing in the most recent issue of Newsletter of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, a publication of the American Psychological Association.

Alfred State College recently hosted Joseph A. Dunn, PhD, special adviser to the under secretary for Research, Education and Economics, U. S. Department of Agriculture, who visited campus to learn about the college's programs, to discuss possible liaisons between ASC and the USDA, and to discuss opportunities for additional funding for Alfred State Agriculture Projects.

Gregory Sammons, chief of police at Alfred State College, recently had an article published in Campus Law Enforcement Journal, March/April 2008 edition.
The article, "Do You Need More Officers? A Comprehensive Benchmarking Formula that Can Help You Make the Case," delineates the differences between campus and municipal police forces when determining the need for staffing.

Five baccalaureate-level mechanical engineering seniors at Alfred State College, under the guidance of their project advisers, SUNY (State University of New York) Distinguished Service Professor Dr. Edward Tezak, and Ray Gleason, instructional support technician, captured first place in the eighth annual national BUV (basic utility vehicle) competition held recently in Indianapolis.

Dr. Richard Kellogg, professor of psychology at Alfred State College, is the author of an article appearing in the most recent issue of The Baker Street Journal. Titled "The Case-Book of Prince Zaleski," the article reviews the life of British writer M. P. Shiel and discusses his most famous literary creation, the brilliant detective Prince Zaleski.

Alfred State College held its 10th annual New York State postsecondary SkillsUSA competition on March 29, 2008. Sixty-four students from Alfred State College, SUNY Delhi, and the Culinary Institute of America (Hyde Park) competed in 12 vocational and leadership skill areas.

Students from Region I BOCES (Board of Cooperative Education and Services) districts--encompassing
Western New York and the Southern Tier--competed recently in a SkillsUSA (formerly Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) Day leadership conference and skills Olympics at Alfred State College,
on both the Wellsville and Alfred campuses, earlier this month. Several BOCES schools participated in the event.
