Alfred State College - Men's Soccer News
New head coach Jason Gildner and the Alfred State College men's soccer team will enter the 2009 season in the NJCAA Division III National Poll. The Pioneers, who finished 2008 with a 14-4 mark, are ranked 6th in the preseason poll.
Jason Gildner has been named the new men's soccer coach at Alfred State College. Gildner a former assistant coach at ASC and a 2005 graduate takes over a team that was 14-4 in 2008 and advanced all the way to the Region III Division III finals.
Twenty Alfred State College student athletes have been honored with academic awards. Eleven Pioneers were named NJCAA Academic All-American, 13 were named Academic All-Region, and 20 were named Academic All Conference.
The Alfred State College athletic department has published the 2009 fall athletic schedules. Athletes will begin reporting to campus in the middle of August with games beginning the last weekend of August.
Alfred State College men’s soccer and lacrosse coach Todd Weil has resigned from his position in the athletic department. Weil has spent the past four seasons at the helm of the lacrosse program and the last three seasons guiding the men’s soccer team.
The men's soccer All-Region Division III team was recently announced and three Pioneers were named to the team. Freshman defender Jason Durst (Gates-Chili) was named first team while sophomore defender Hiroshi Ozaki (Tokyo, Japan) and freshman midfielder Caleb Drake (Jasper-Troupsburg) were named to the second team.
