Alfred State College Gets Greener: Trayless Dining Debuts

Students at Alfred State College will join the trayless revolution when they return to school this fall. Dining services organizations across the county are removing trays from dining halls in order to reduce food waste and save both water and electricity.

Pioneer Farm

Alfred State College (ASC) and the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) are pleased to announce a partnership to establish Pioneer Farm, a model farm to be operated by the college in accordance with Animal Welfare Approved standards. It will focus on teaching grazing systems and animal husbandry practices that enhance land use and animal well-being.

ASC Will Participate in Bio Energy Awareness Days (BEAD II) in Washington, DC, in June

Alfred State College will participate in the United States Department of Agriculture's Research, Education, and Economics Agency's (USDA/REE) second annual Bio Energy Awareness Days (BEAD II) in Washington, DC, in June. The purpose of the event is to increase awareness and knowledge related to the sustainable production of agriculture-based and natural resource-based renewable energy and the efficient use and conservation of energy for the benefit of rural communities and the nation.

ASC Hosting Going Green Festival

Alfred State College is hosting a Going Green Festival, sponsored by ACCORD Corp. and WNY Energy $mart Communities.  This two-day green business conference is offered for aspiring entrepreneurs and existing businesses in Allegany County.  It is also intended to raise awareness of energy efficiency issues and opportunities for homeowners.

ASC Dining Services Anchors Local Sustainable Food Chain

Getting nutritious, tasty, fresh, and appealing meals on the table every day at the Alfred State College campus is a challenging affair. It means developing recipes, planning menus, locating and ordering large quantities of foodstuffs, preparing the food, and serving it to customers at the right temperature - all while maintaining the quality and safety of the food.
