Alfred State football players Brett Harrington (Rochester/Edison Tech) and Dominic Sylvester (Horseheads) signed national letters of intent on Wednesday to continue their collegiate careers. Harrington signed with Western Kentucky University while Sylvester inked with the University of Alabama Birmingham.
Eleven members of the Region III Champion Alfred State College football team have been named to the All-Region team. Quarterback Greg Hampton (Uniondale) was named Offensive Player of the Year while Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) was named Special Teams Player of the Year.
Football player Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) has been named the NJCAA Special Teams Player of the Week following the Pioneers 26-20 victory over Erie CC on Saturday. Johnson is the second Pioneer player to be honored by NJCAA this season.
Alfred State College freshman forward Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) and sophomore football player Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) have been named the ASC Athletes of the Week by the SID office.
Alfred State College sophomore football player Anthony Turner (Syracuse/Corcoran) has been named the Region III Athlete of the Week. Turner led the Pioneers defense as they defeated Erie CC 26-20 to claim the Region III Championship.
The Alfred State College football team claimed the Region III Championship for the 1st time in school history with a 26-20 victory over Erie CC in Orchard Park. The Pioneers withstood a late 4th quarter rally by the Kats and finish the 2011 season with a 6-4 record.
Every year the Alfred State College football coaching staff preaches to its players the importance of setting goals. Heading into the 2011 season, head coach Mick Caba knew this could be the year the team accomplished one of the program's goals of winning the Region III Championship.
Alfred State scored 27 unanswered points en route to a 48-26 victory over Hudson Valley CC to advance to the Region III Championship game next week. The Pioneers are now 5-4 on the year
The Alfred State College defense played tough as they defeated the Onondaga Ogres Football Club 38-0 in the snow on Saturday afternoon. The defense allowed just 104 total yards, recorded eight sacks, and forced four turnovers.
Instead of charging admission to their contest Saturday vs. the Onondaga Ogres Football Club, the Alfred State College football team will collecting donations for the athletic department's "Dig Pink" campaign. Donations will be collected at the front gate and will be added to the volleyball team's fundraising effort for the Side-Out Foundation.
