The Alfred State College football team fell nine yards short of rallying for a come-from-behind victory versus Hudson Valley CC. The Vikings kept the Pioneers off the board late in the 4th quarter to escape with a 27-21 Northeast Football Conference contest on Saturday. HVCC improves to 2-2 (1-1 NFC) while ASC falls to 2-2 (0-2 NFC).

Alfred State College running back DeAndre Johnson (Detroit, MI) has been named the Region III male athlete of the week following his first 100-yard rushing game of his collegiate career. Johnson helped the Pioneers to a 33-0 victory over Williamson College on Saturday.

The Alfred State College football team fell behind early and turned the ball over seven times as they fell 37-19 to Erie CC in the rain in front of 1,767 fans at the college's first on-campus homecoming game. ASC falls to 1-1 (0-1 NFC) on the year while ECC improves to 2-0 (1-0 NFC).

Former Alfred State College and University of Arkansas football player Matt Hewitt (Englewood, NJ) has signed a contract with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. Hewitt was one of nine players signed by the team today.

Alfred State College punter/tight end Preston Washburn (Dundee) has been named the Northeast Football Conference co-special teams player of the week. Washburn had a solid game in the Pioneers 21-14 victory over Stevens Tech on Saturday afternoon.

The Alfred State College football team enjoyed playing on campus for the first time in the program's 13-year history as the Pioneers downed Stevens Tech 21-14 in front of 1,278 fans on Saturday. The Pioneers have now won season openers six of the last seven years.

The wait for the Alfred State College football team to play on campus is nearly over as the Pioneers are working on final preparations for Saturday's 2008 season opener versus Stevens Tech (Lancaster, PA). Saturday's 3 p.m. kickoff will mark the first football game played on the college's new athletic complex and the first game in the programs 13-year history to be played on campus.
