Alfred State College - Football News
The Alfred State College athletic hall of fame will induct five new members on September 25th during Homecoming weekend. Basketball player Tom Hirsch, football player Chris Gray, baseball player Eric Baker, and cross country athletes Andy Coots and Gary Redding will become the newest members of the hall of fame. The athletic department will also be honoring the 1984 cross country team.
Alfred State College punter Jeff Glomb (Buffalo/St. Francis) has been named the Northeast Football Conference special teams player of the week. Glomb is the second straight Pioneer to be honored by the NFC.
In a defensive battle, Erie CC was able to down Alfred State College 10-6 in the Northeast Football Conference opener for both teams. ECC improves to 1-1 (1-0 NFC) while ASC falls to 1-1 (0-1 NFC).
The Alfred State College football team opened up the 2009 season with a strong showing in a 40-14 victory at Stevens Tech (Lancaster, PA). The Pioneers passed for 434 yards and held the Bulldog offense to 232 yards.
Twenty Alfred State College student athletes have been honored with academic awards. Eleven Pioneers were named NJCAA Academic All-American, 13 were named Academic All-Region, and 20 were named Academic All Conference.
Bill Drake (Hornell) will continue his collegiate career at Mayville State University (Mayville, ND). Drake joins the Comets football team this spring after a strong two year career wearing the blue & gold at Alfred State.
