Eight members of the Alfred State football team have been named All-Region following the Pioneers 5-4 season. The blue & gold finished the year as the runner-up in Region III.
Wrestler Dan Ognibene (Alexander) and football player Alonzo Joyner (Queens) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week.
Special teams and turnovers played a huge part as Alfred State defeated Hudson Valley CC 30-24 to close out the 2012 season. The win improves the Pioneers to 5-4 and secures the program's eighth .500 or better season during Head Coach Mick Caba's tenure.
Alfred State closes out the 2012 season with a battle vs. Region III rival Hudson Valley CC. Kickoff is at Noon at Pioneer Stadium.
Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) and Collin Frazier (Woodbridge, VA) have been named the Region III athletes of the week and the Alfred State athletes of the week.
The Alfred State football team raced out to a big lead and defeated the Onondaga Ogres FC 34-20 to even their record at 4-4 and snap a three-game losing streak.
Alfred State takes on the Onondaga Ogres FC on Saturday with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
Alfred State Football coach Mick Caba is part of the 2012 NJCAA Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class. Caba, in his 13th season at the helm of the Pioneer football program is joined in the class by Terrence Cody (defensive linemen from Mississippi Gulf Coast CC) and the 1983 Coffeyville CC football team.
Southern Virginia University took advantage of three Alfred State turnovers and ten penalties in a 21-6 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Knights improve to 3-6 on the year while the Pioneers fall to 3-4.
