Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson) and Colter Johnson (Warren, PA) were named the 2011 Alfred State College freshman athletes of the year. Murphy ran to All-American honors in track & field while Johnson punted his way to All-American on the football gridiron.
Alfred State College sophomores Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda) and Taylor Nelson (Somers) have been named SUNY Chancellor's Scholar Athlete award winners. Farrell is the NJCAA cross country representative while Nelso represents wrestling.
Four members of the Alfred State College cross country team ran to NJCAA Division III All-American at the National Championship last weekend at Sunken Meadow State Park. Joe Seitz (Williamsville North) ran to 2nd team honors while Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda), Frank Mastraccio (Rome Free), and Abbey Benton (Frewsburg) were honorable mention All-Americans.
For the second year in a row the Alfred State College men's cross country team finished as national runner-ups at the NJCAA Division III National Championships. The Pioneers scored a 90 trailing just SUNY Delhi's 40.

The Alfred State College cross country team competed with 15 complete teams at the University of Rochester Invitational. The men finished 12th with 349 points while the women finished 13th with 420 points.
