Competing versus mostly four-year competition, the Alfred State College women’s cross country team finished 10th while the men finished 11th.
After winning the FLCC Invitational, the Alfred State College women's cross country team has leaped to the top of the latest NJCAA Division III poll. The Lady Pioneers are tied for the top spot with Mohawk Valley one week after being ranked #4.
For the second week in a row, the Alfred State College women's cross country team won an invitational. The Lady Pioneers were victorious in the FLCC Invitational defeating #1 ranked Mohawk Valley CC. The men's team finished 2nd out of seven teams.
After a perfect showing at their first invitational of the year, the Alfred State College women's cross country team moved up five spots to the #4 ranking in the 2nd NJCAA Division III poll of the year.
Women's Cross Country runner Kim Lupo (Auburn) and volleyball player Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) have been named the Alfred State College athletes of the week selected by the Sports Information office.
The Alfred State College women's cross country team scored a perfect score as they won the ASC Invitational on Saturday. The men's team finished 3rd out of five teams at the annual event.
The Alfred State College women's cross country team has been ranked 9th in the first NJCAA Division III poll of the 2011 season. The Lady Pioneers are one of five Region III teams in the top ten.
Several Alfred State College athletes have earned honors from the NJCAA, Region III, and the Western New York Athletic Conference for outstanding academic achievements. Three Pioneers were recipients of the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement, three more were honored with the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement, 11 were named Academic All-Region, and 15 were named Academic All-Conference.
Alfred State College Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Steve Tyrell has announced that Dr. Daryl Arroyo has been named the new Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Recreation and Intramurals. Arroyo, who succeeds Kathy Feldman, begins his new duties at Alfred State on June 29.
The Alfred State College athletic department handed out the Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Academic awards recently at the college's annual end of year banquet. Cody Dill (Unatego) and Angela Depew (Wellsville) were the recipients of the leadership award, Andy Jones (Milford) and Amber Harding (Fillmore) received the sportsmanship awards, and Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda), Charise Nankivell (Hornell), and Andrea Presher (Prattsburgh) won the academic awards.
