    Enough with the chicken wings and comfort foods -it's time to get your palate ready for spring. Alfred State College will host New York's first Lettuce Tasting event on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in the new Student Gathering Place on campus. "Lettuce Indulge," hosted by Alfred State's Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA), will give students and members of the community the chance to sample COSA's produce while giving their taste buds an education in greens.

    LettuceThere may be snow on the ground and a nip in the air, but the cropping season is well underway at Alfred State College.  Thanks to new greenhouse and lighting technologies, the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Technology, located in the central Southern Tier, is growing vegetables year-round.

To accomplish this, the Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA) will provide support and educational benefits for local farmers.

    Sen Cathy Young presents checkThanks to a $4.9 million state grant presented to Alfred State College today by New York State Sen. Cathy Young, R-Olean, the College's vision and plans for the on-campus farm will take a giant leap forward. Officially named the "Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture at Alfred State College," the new facility will house the state's first on-campus organic dairy herd. The Center also will include renovated facilities, a working farm, applied research, a new computerized dairy management system, and a variety of continuing education opportunities, such as research projects, conferences, workshops and online tutorials for the community.
