Gregory Sammons, chief of police at Alfred State College, recently had an article published in Campus Law Enforcement Journal, March/April 2008 edition.

The article, "Do You Need More Officers? A Comprehensive Benchmarking Formula that Can Help You Make the Case," delineates the differences between campus and municipal police forces when determining the need for staffing.

Now that Danica Patrick has become the first woman in a century to win a major racing event after driving into the winner's circle at the Indy Japan 300, it's a sure bet that females will soon become a more common sight in racing.

But it didn't take Patrick's success on the track to interest Kristy Johnson, Point Rock, in the racing field.

WNY Counselor Tour Program

Alfred State College recently hosted 40 school counselors as part of the annual Western New York Counselor Tour Program, under the auspices of the WNY Consortium of Higher Education, where participants spend three days visiting various regional college campuses to become better acquainted with campus programs and facilities, as well as receive updates on the latest upgrades and curriculums.

Alfred State College student academic achievement was celebrated April 26 during the 24^th annual Honors Convocation. ASC President Dr. John M. Anderson welcomed the gathered students, families, faculty, and friends and congratulated them on their achievements.

Freshman Advocate Award

Alfred State College honored more than 250 students for their academic success and honored distinguished faculty members for excellence and commitment at its annual Honors Convocation. Chosen this year for the Freshman Advocate of the Year Award, presented at the ceremony, and sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, was Debra Tomm, of Alfred Station, a keyboard specialist in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Presiding over the ceremony will be Dr. John M. Anderson, college president.
