Clark, Falkowski, Gouck, Argentieri, Barwick, Anderson, MartinelliThe Computerized Design and Manufacturing Department at Alfred State College's School of Applied Technology, Wellsville, was the recipient recently of a $10,000 donation from Praxair, Inc., Tonawanda, to be used for student scholarships beginning in fall 2008.

Alfred State College will celebrate its 100th birthday on Thursday, May 8, 2008, with a day-long schedule of events to be held on the Alfred campus.

Beginning at 11 a.m., the campus community will dedicate a "centennial bench" overlooking the academic quad.

Dr. Richard KelloggDr. Richard Kellogg, professor of psychology at Alfred State College, is the author of an article appearing in the most recent issue of The Baker Street Journal.  Titled "The Case-Book of Prince Zaleski," the article reviews the life of British writer M. P. Shiel and discusses his most famous literary creation, the brilliant detective Prince Zaleski.

Enough with the chicken wings and comfort foods -it's time to get your palate ready for spring. Alfred State College will host New York's first Lettuce Tasting event on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in the new Student Gathering Place on campus. "Lettuce Indulge," hosted by Alfred State's Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA), will give students and members of the community the chance to sample COSA's produce while giving their taste buds an education in greens.

WINS FutureBound Career DayAlfred State College's Office of Career Development hosted its annual "WINS" (Women in Non-traditional Studies) FutureBound Career Day late last month.

This annual career exploration day is held for 10th grade girls interested in learning more about non-traditional occupations and careers (non-traditional occupations are defined as those with fewer than 25 percent female

Alfred State College held its 10th annual New York State postsecondary SkillsUSA competition on March 29, 2008. Sixty-four students from Alfred State College, SUNY Delhi, and the Culinary Institute of America (Hyde Park) competed in 12 vocational and leadership skill areas.

The construction management technology program at Alfred State College has been granted reaccreditation by the board of trustees of the American Council for Construction Education.  The program has maintained the stringent standards of ACCE and has proven to the board, through a visiting team of its peers and industry practitioners, that the program is worthy of reaccreditation.

LettuceThere may be snow on the ground and a nip in the air, but the cropping season is well underway at Alfred State College.  Thanks to new greenhouse and lighting technologies, the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Technology, located in the central Southern Tier, is growing vegetables year-round.
