Five baccalaureate-level mechanical engineering seniors at Alfred State College, under the guidance of their project advisers, SUNY (State University of New York) Distinguished Service Professor Dr. Edward Tezak, and Ray Gleason, instructional support technician, captured first place in the eighth annual national BUV (basic utility vehicle) competition held recently in Indianapolis.
Alfred State College is hosting a Going Green Festival, sponsored by ACCORD Corp. and WNY Energy $mart Communities. This two-day green business conference is offered for aspiring entrepreneurs and existing businesses in Allegany County. It is also intended to raise awareness of energy efficiency issues and opportunities for homeowners.
Elizabeth Harkenrider, Rexville, a nursing major at Alfred State College, has been named the 2007-08 Alfred State College Student Employee of the Year. Elizabeth works in the Financial Aid Office and was nominated by her supervisor, Deborah Neu, secretary for Financial Aid.
Dr. Choichiro Yatani, professor, Social and Behavioral Sciences Department at Alfred State College, recently attended the 20th anniversary meeting of the Oxford Round Table where he presented his paper, "With Us or Against Us: American Images of the Enemy."

Two Alfred State College graduating seniors were named State University of New York (SUNY) 2008 Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence winners. Justin Cross, Bloomfield, and Jennifer Lorow, Angelica, were honored at a reception in Albany in April where they each received a commemorative certificate and a medallion suit
Members of UUP (United University Professions) at Alfred State College, gathered recently to honor NYS Sen. Catharine M. Young, (R-Olean), at a dinner recognizing her for being named "2008 Friend of SUNY" by the organization.
Students enrolled in the Automotive Trades curriculums at Alfred State College celebrated National Car Care Month recently when they hosted their annual Car Care Awareness Day in mid-April, on the School of Applied Technology Campus, Wellsville, with a variety of free services, including checks of the following items: lights, fluids, tires, battery, belts and pulleys, and an under-hood inspection.
Alfred State College students once again participated in the Student Senate and ACES (Auxiliary Campus Enterprises and Services, the campus dining and vending organization) sponsored "Give Up A Meal" (GUAM) program whereby students who donate a "meal punch" help raise money for charity.
The Computerized Design and Manufacturing Department at Alfred State College's School of Applied Technology, Wellsville, was the recipient recently of a $10,000 donation from Praxair, Inc., Tonawanda, to be used for student scholarships beginning in fall 2008.
