Executive Vice President Valerie Nixon received the Robert J. Wagner Business Officer of the Year Award at the annual conference of the State University of New York Business Officers Association (SUBOA). While Nixon serves as president of SUBOA, association members kept it a secret to surprise Nixon with their highest award.
“I was surprised and delighted to receive the Robert J. Wagner Business Officer of the Year Award,” stated Nixon. “Bob Wagner is a strong advocate and mentor for many SUNY business officers and to be honored by my colleagues with this award in his name is truly an honor.”
“This is the most prestigious award given by the SUBOA organization,” said Dr. Skip Sullivan, president of Alfred State. “Val was recognized for her outstanding performance, high professional standards, and her significant contribution to SUNY and SUBOA. Chief business officers from across the state are the ones selecting the recipient, which shows the tremendous respect colleagues have for Val’s dedication and excellence. We at Alfred State could not be more proud.”
The Business Officer of the Year Award is named for the former vice president for administration at the University at Buffalo, Robert J. Wagner. It is bestowed annually since its inception in 2005.
Chief business officers with the State University of New York (SUNY) comprise SUBOA, including the System-wide Administration and the Research Foundation of SUNY. The charge of this group is to serve in an advisory capacity as consultants to the System-wide Administration and to give organized and effective direction in the development of improved principles and practices of educational business administration, in order that the members may serve more efficiently the educational objectives of their institutions and SUNY.
