Volleyball finishes 1-2 at MVCC Tournament

The Alfred State College volleyball team finished 1-2 at the Mohawk Valley CC Tournament on Saturday.  The Lady Pioneers defeated Herkimer CCC 2-0 (25-16, 25-20), fell 2-0 to Niagara CCC (16-25, 21-25), and lost a heartbreaker to SUNY Delhi 2-1 (22-25, 25-19, 13-15).

The Alfred State College volleyball team finished 1-2 at the Mohawk Valley CC Tournament on Saturday.  The Lady Pioneers defeated Herkimer CCC 2-0 (25-16, 25-20), fell 2-0 to Niagara CCC (16-25, 21-25), and lost a heartbreaker to SUNY Delhi 2-1 (22-25, 25-19, 13-15).

Bobbi Hopkins (Southwestern) recorded seven kills and seven digs versus Herkimer while Brittany Haines (Salamanca) added 22 assists, five digs, and four aces.  Emily Linn (Portville) chipped in six kills and four digs.

Linn had eight digs and three kills while Hopkins added six digs and three kills versus Niagara.

Haines had 22 assists, six digs, and two aces in the tough match versus Delhi that kept the Pioneers from advancing to the semifinals.  Linn recorded seven kills and five digs, Shelby Gadsen (Olean) had six kills and five digs, and Kelly McDermott (Webster Thomas) added eight digs.

The Lady Pioneers, 3-4 (2-3 Region III Division III) return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Monroe CC for a 6 p.m. start.
