The Alfred State track and field team had a few more athletes qualify for the NJCAA National Championships as they competed at the Nazareth College ROC City Classic on Saturday.

The Alfred State track and field team had a few more athletes qualify for the NJCAA National Championships as they competed at the Nazareth College ROC City Classic on Saturday.

Marcquis Johnson Broughton (Rochester/Edison) qualified in the 400 m hurdles with a 4th place finish (58.44), Sam Sherwin (Williamson) qualified in the hammer throw with a toss of 39.06 - 6th place, and Brian Tubbs (Chemung/Waverly) qualified in the 400 m with a 6th place finish (51.64).  On the women's side, Jen DeNovio (Guilderland) qualified in the discus (28.36 m) with a 6th place finish.

Other top performances included: Adam Kellogg (Wellsville) 2nd in the hammer throw (41.60 m), Alex Hewlett (Wellsville) was 2nd in the javelin (49.20 m), Travis Nagle (Randolph) 2nd in the pole vault (3.90 m), Jayvon Larkin (Rochester/Wilson) was 2nd in the triple jump (13.25 m), and Robert Howard (Syracuse/Nottingham) was 3rd in the shot put (13.01 m).  The 4x100 relay team also earned a 2nd place finish in 44.71.

On the women's side the 4x100 relay team of Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts), Shea McKee (Canisteo Greenwood), Megan Votava (Alfred Almond), and Kayla Franchina (Cassadaga Valley) won in 52.29.  Dorsey was also 2nd in the 100 (26.70), McKee was 3rd in the high jump (1.47 m), and Votava was 3rd in the pole vault (2.60 m).

The blue & gold head to the University of Rochester next Saturday for the Alumni Invitational.  Events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. from Fauver Stadium.
