John Sweeney (Barker), Brandon Lewis (Red Creek), and Abby Benton (Frewsburg) all raced to All-Region honors this weekend at the Region III Championships. ASC Head Coach Gary Moore was also named the men's Region III Coach of the Year.
Sweeney and Lewis ran to first team honors with top five finishes. Sweeney crossed the finish line of the 8k course in 29:12 to earn 4th place while Lewis finished in 29:22 to earn 5th. The duo helped the Pioneers finish 2nd in the team rankings. This is the second year in a row that Sweeney has earned All-Region honors.
On the women's side, Benton ran to second team honors with a 10th place finish. She ran the 5k course in 22:27.
Coach Moore was also honored by being named the Region III men's coach of the year. Moore guided his team to their first Region III Runner-up finish since 2002. ASC's top five runners finished in the top 19 of the 68 competitor race.
The Pioneers will travel to Finger Lakes CC (Canandaigua, NY) on Saturday for the NJCAA Division III National Championships.
