Alfred State College has a lot to take
pride in this year-we are celebrating our centennial anniversary, we are seeing
the completion of many of our building projects, and we are looking forward to
a variety of exciting events on campus!

Community
members are invited to attend the next such event-the grand opening of the new Student Gathering Place-a
two-story addition that joins Central Dining Hall (CDH) with the Allied Health
Building.  The Student Gathering Place grew out of a
plan to upgrade the stair cases in CDH and the elevator shared by both
buildings for handicap and freight use. Now there is complete handicap
accessibility from the new north entrance right off of the campus loop road.

The Student Gathering Place
features a new food court on the first floor with Taco Bell, Freshens, and
Friendly's Café serving in that area. There is seating for 95 on the first
floor and an area where small performances may be held.

The second floor
features comfortable furniture where students, faculty, and staff will be tempted
to gather often to work on class projects or just to socialize. There is
seating for 110 people in this upstairs area. Additionally, a new small private
dining room where lunches and dinners can be hosted for up to 15 people has
been created. The second floor also includes a new entry into the dining area
of CDH. Students can also access the Allied Health Building from this area
without ever going outdoors.

The public is invited to attend a
"grand opening celebration" at the student gathering place on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at 9:30 a.m.  A brief ceremony will be followed by guided
tours and a reception.
