Former Alfred State football player Rod Streater hopes to hear his name announced from the podium of the 2012 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall this weekend. Streater, who wore the Pioneer blue & gold in 2008 and 2009 before transferring to Temple University, wrapped up his collegiate playing career in December with a touchdown catch in Temple’s win in the New Mexico Bowl.
Streater has been busy since his collegiate career ended. “I have been doing a lot of training. I have had to get into top shape for my pro day. Since my pro day, I have been training with various coaches and trainers trying to get ready for mini-camps.”
During his two years at Temple, Streater caught 49 passes for 882 yards and seven scores. This follows a 2009 season at Alfred State where he caught 24 passes for 539 yards and six scores. During his freshman season wearing the blue & gold, Streater played safety on the defensive side of the ball and picked up 20 tackles and picked off two passes.
The NFL Draft begins on Thursday evening with Round 1 and continues Friday evening with picks in Rounds 2 and 3. The draft concludes with Rounds 4-7 on Saturday afternoon.
“I would love to be drafted. It’s always been a dream to have a team love you that much to draft you. The biggest thing is to get into a NFL camp so I can showcase my talents.”
Alfred State head coach Mick Caba will join Streater and his agent at a draft party in Michigan this weekend. Caba is excited to see what the weekend might have in hold for Streater. “As the draft nears it is a strong possibility that Rod may be selected. Several teams have been in direct contact with him and his agent and this weekend will definitely be exciting to see what team selects Rod. I know Rod is ready for the opportunity.”
Streater has been in contact with multiple teams following his pro day at Temple including the Ravens, the Bills, the Chiefs, the Buccaneers, and the 49ers.
Being drafted is a dream come true for Streater. He looks to be the first player in Alfred State history to be drafted. Former Pioneers Leroy Collins and Lyonel Anderson both signed free agent contracts with NFL teams following the draft.
