Six Lady Pioneers Named All-WNYAC

Six members of the Alfred State College women's soccer team have been named All-WNYAC following the Lady Pioneers 10-2-4 season.  Jessie Smith (Fredonia), Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove), Audrey Rath (Medina), and Mo Parks (Avoca) were named to the first team while Jackie Matteson (Greece Arcadia) and Therese Hubbel (Bishop Kearney) were second team selections.

Six members of the Alfred State College women's soccer team have been named All-WNYAC following the Lady Pioneers 10-2-4 season.  Jessie Smith (Fredonia), Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove), Audrey Rath (Medina), and Mo Parks (Avoca) were named to the first team while Jackie Matteson (Greece Arcadia) and Therese Hubbel (Bishop Kearney) were second team selections.

Smith led the Lady Pioneers with 25 points on ten goals and five assists.  She scored two goals in contests versus JCC-Olean, Erie CC, and Corning CC.  This is the second year in a row that Smith was a first team All-WNYAC selection.

Winchester was a catalyst in the midfield for ASC.  She finished the year with three goals and four assists.  She scored the lone goal in a tie versus Bryant & Stratton, the winning goal versus Mercyhurst North East, and added a goal in the victory over Corning CC.  Winchester was a All-WNYAC first team selection last year.

Rath played stopper all season for the Lady Pioneer defense.  She helped lead the Lady Pioneer defense that allowed just eight goals in 16 games this season.  On the offensive side of the ball she was credited with one assist.  In 2008, she was named All-WNYAC second team.

Parks had a breakout freshman season in net.  She played 1,400.5 minutes on the season and made 109 saves.  She finished the year with a 9-2-4 record and a 0.51 goals against average.  On the year she was in net for nine shutouts.

Matteson teamed with Rath and Parks in the defensive backfield.  She battled some of the opponents top offensive threats all season.  She finished the year with one assist.

Hubbel was the ASC's second leading scorer finishing with six goals.  She scored in six different games including scoring the winning goal in opening two games versus Tompkins Cortland CC and SUNY Delhi.

The Lady Pioneers won the WNYAC Division III title for the second year in a row with a perfect 5-0 record in conference play.
