Behind a strong start the #10 ranked Alfred State College lacrosse team downed Finger Lakes CC 20-14 in a Region III contest played at Pioneer Stadium on Friday afternoon.  ASC jumped out to a 13-6 lead at halftime en route to the victory that improves the team to 7-2 on the year.

Behind a strong start the #10 ranked Alfred State College lacrosse team downed Finger Lakes CC 20-14 in a Region III contest played at Pioneer Stadium on Friday afternoon.  ASC jumped out to a 13-6 lead at halftime en route to the victory that improves the team to 7-2 on the year.

William Ardolino (William Floyd) and Ryan Speciale (Corning West) each scored five goals and passed out an assist to the lead the blue and gold's offense.  Ardolino's five goals was a season best while it was the third time Speciale scored five in a contest.

Churchville Chili grads Ryan Grogan and Ben Rossignolo were also key contributors to the offense.  Grogan finished with three goals and three assists while Rossignolo had a season high four goals.

Josh Mateo (Waterloo) was tough at the face-off circle leading to much of the offense for the Pioneers.  He finished with one goal, two assists, and ten groundballs.  Tyler Baird (Corning West) and Chase Bailey (Corning West) were credited with goals while James Moss (Hilton) and Tony MIcelotta (Irondequoit) passed out an assist.

Marshall Merritt (Marcellus) made 23 saves in net for the Pioneers while Mitch Mertel (Churchville) collected nine groundballs on the defensive side of the ball.

The Pioners travel to Mercyhurst North East on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest with the Saints.
