The Alfred State College baseball team scored 33 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Broome CC on Thursday afternoon.  The Pioneers improve to 22-13 on the season with 17-5 and 16-11 victories.

Leading 3-0 early, Alfred State scored 12 runs in the 2nd inning to put the opener out of reach.  Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) was 3 for 4 with 6 RBI including his team leading fifth homer of the season.  Ray Sova (West Genesee) was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI while Karl Komel (Ottawa, ONT) and Justin DiCarlo (Oakville, ONT) were each 2 for 2 with 2 RBI.  Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) earned the win on the mound.

ASC fell behind 2-0 early in game two but scored 15 of the games next 16 runs to take control of the contest.  Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI while Kofmel continued his solid day with a 2 for 2, 4 RBI performance.  Jake Dale (Keshequa) connected on his second homer of the year and finished with 3 RBI while Ryan Barkley (Penn Yan) hit a three-run shot, his first collegiate homer, in the 4th inning.  Sova tossed four effective innings to earn the victory on the mound.

Alfred State closes out Region III Division II play on Saturday when they travel to Dwyer Stadium for a pivotal doubleheader with Genesee CC.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
