Pioneers Give HCCC All they can Handle

The Alfred State College men's soccer team gave #1 seed Herkimer CCC all they could handle but fell 1-0 to the Generals in a Region III Division III Tournament quarterfinal contest.  The Pioneers, seeded #8, finish the season with a 8-7-1 record.

The Alfred State College men's soccer team gave #1 seed Herkimer CCC all they could handle but fell 1-0 to the Generals in a Region III Division III Tournament quarterfinal contest.  The Pioneers, seeded #8, finish the season with a 8-7-1 record.

The game was scoreless until Herkimer was able to finally to get one past Pioneer goalie Dan Krajcir (Gloversville) with 32 minutes left in the contest.

HCCC, 16-1-2 and ranked #2 in the NJCAA Division III poll, held a 20 to 4 shot advantage in the contest. Krajcir made 16 saves in net for ASC but was helped by solid play by sophomore defenders Justin Clark (Alfred Almond) and Eric Reynolds (East Rochester).

Alfred State defeated Jefferson CC 1-0 in overtime to advance to the quarterfinals and was making its ninth straight trip to the Region III Division III Tournament.

Herkimer advances to play Tompkins Cortland CC on Saturday in the semifinals.
