The Alfred State College lacrosse team will enter the Region III Tournament as the #5 seed.  The Pioneers wrapped up their regular season on Sunday with a 10-3 overall record and a 8-3 mark in Region III play.

The Alfred State College lacrosse team will enter the Region III Tournament as the #5 seed.  The Pioneers wrapped up their regular season on Sunday with a 10-3 overall record and a 8-3 mark in Region III play.

The Pioneers will travel to #4 Monroe CC on Tuesday for a first round match-up with the Tribunes (13-4).  Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Alfred State and Monroe met on April 14th in a tight contest.  MCC led throughout the game but had to withstand a 4th quarter rally in their 12-10 victory.

The Pioneers offense is led by Ryan Grogan (Churchville) and Ryan Speciale (Corning West).  Grogan leads the team with 70 points on 36 goals and 34 assists while Speciale has netted 37 goals and passed out 14 assists. 

Marshall Merritt (Marcellus) has played every minute in net for the blue and gold.  He has anchored a defense that allows 10.62 goals per game.  He has made 222 saves on the year.  In front of Merritt, Mitch Mertel (Churchville), Josh Reese (Berlin, NJ), and Michael Fingar (Shenedowa) have played solid defense.

The winner of the ASC/MCC match-up will take on #1 Onondaga CC in the Region III Final Four on Saturday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. at Herkimer CCC. 

In the other first round match-ups, #2 Hudson Valley CC hosts #7 Mohawk Valley CC and #3 Herkimer CCC battles #6 Jefferson CC.
