Alfred State baseball lost both games of a double header with Erie CC 10-5 and 9-5 Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers were beaten by the big inning in both contests giving up 6 runs in the 6th inning of game 1 and 5 runs in the 1st inning of game 2.

In the first game the Pioneers were led at the plate by Derek Speaker (Starpoint) who went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored while Ray Sova (West Genesee) was 1 for 1 with a double and a run scored.

Casey McCabe (Binghamton) took the hill in game 1 for Alfred going 5.1 innings and giving up 6 runs.  Alex Demosthenous (Calhoun) took over on the mound in the 6th allowing the first four batters he faced to score capping off the 6 run sixth.  The Pios would try to mount a comeback scoring 2 in the bottom of the 7th, but the deficit was too much to overcome.  McCabe (0-1) takes the loss.

Game 2 saw Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) take the mound against the ECC and he promptly gave up 5 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and a throwing error.  Ervay would not come out for the 2nd inning as he gave way to Brent Johnson (Penn Yan).  Johnson shut down the Kats, pitching 5 scoreless innings to allow Alfred State back in the game.

The Pioneers scored two in the 1st, two in the 5th, and one in the 6th to tie the score at 5. .  Berto Vargas (Norman Thomas) and Karl Kofmel (Cairine Wilson) each had two hits to lead the way offensively. Erie CC then answered with four runs of their own in the 7th off of Johnson to seal the game

Brent Johnson takes the loss pushing his record to 1-1 on the young season.  The Pioneers record is now 2-4, they will continue their campaign Saturday Sept. 13 at home against Jefferson CC.
