Pioneer Award Recipients

Several
Alfred State College faculty and staff members were honored recently as
recipients of the Pioneer Award which recognizes those members of the
organization who demonstrate the following characteristics:  commitment to
the mission and goals of the college, meaningful and measurable positive impact
on the college, role modeling, and a high level of performance.

The
award carries with it prize money of $225 for each recipient.  This year's
winners included Jeff Stevens, assistant professor, Electrician, Computer and
Robotics Technician Department; Michelle Francisco, staff associate, Business
Affairs; Larry Perkins, maintenance assistant, Maintenance and Operation,
Facilities Services; Marsha Goodwin, keyboard specialist, Human Resources and Continuing
Education; and Rita Scott, cleaner, Facilities Services.

Stevens, of Wellsville, joined the faculty at Alfred State College in
2002.  He is a graduate of the School of Applied Technology (construction
and maintenance electrician and plumbing, heating, and air conditioning, '91
and '93, respectively).  Stevens was cited for his work at the US National
Arboretum where he and several of his students installed a photovoltaic array
to run an irrigation system at one of the greenhouses, garnering the college
national recognition.  Additionally, Stevens is active in SkillsUSA,
setting up one of the state contests each year, and attending the national
conference to help the students and faculty.

Francisco, a member of the ASC staff since 1998, holds degrees from Alfred
State College and St. Bonaventure University.  Her nomination called her
instrumental in handling the daily operational requirements of the Business
Affairs Office.  She was cited for "...using a high level of autonomy. 
She is efficient and completes her work timely, accurately, and
competently.  Possibly Michelle's greatest quality is her unwavering
commitment to help anyone who asks her for help."  She is always
"accessible and approachable. She does her job with skill and grace."

Perkins, of Andover, was cited as a "tireless worker no matter the amount of
hours he works.  He takes great pains in spring and summer to make sure
the flowers look great.  He does
it for the
students and their parents.  Larry is a wonderful role model for other
employees.  Our school and the students are his motivation."

Goodwin, of Troupsburg, has been part of the ASC community since 2005. 
Goodwin was cited for
"her commitment to the mission and goals of the college in an exceptional
manner by living and working the four R's (reputation, recruitment, retention,
and revenue).  Marsha understands how important customer service is and
the reputation of the CCET programs and services are significant to our ability
to generate revenue for the campus.  As busy as she is, she takes care of
everyone as if they were her own family member.  This level of dedication
was obvious from the day she started working of the college in 2005."

Scott, of Arkport, began her tenure at Alfred State in 1999.  Scott was
cited for having "a very positive attitude on campus.  She always looked
at things on the bright side and offered suggestions if something could be done
differently.  If work had to be done, she was right out there to give it
her all.  She made sure if she was working on something, she did the job
right."
