The EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) staff at
Alfred State College recently inducted nine students into the Chi Alpha Epsilon
honor society.  Chi Alpha Epsilon recognizes the academic excellence
achieved by those students admitted to college via developmental
programs.  Full-time students who hold a 3.0 cumulative GPA (out of a
possible 4.0) for two consecutive semesters and who were admitted to the
college via developmental or higher education opportunity types of programs are
eligible for membership.  Doreen Vance, EOP professional tutor and XAE
adviser, commented that this is only our third induction ceremony and these
nine students make it the largest class of new inductees.  Along with
these nine students, Cathleen Engle, EOP adviser, was inducted into Chi Alpha
Epsilon as an honorary member.   Dr. Jerri Drummond, director of
multicultural affairs, served as the keynote speaker and outlined eight tips
for success that she has used in her own life.  Though not an EOP student
herself, Dr. Drummond mentioned how she has had to overcome obstacles in her
life and has found these strategies to help her achieve a sense of
accomplishment.
