Niagara Holds off Alfred State

Niagara CCC scored three runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to regain their lead en route to a 7-5 victory over Alfred State on Tuesday.  The second game of the doubleheader was suspended in the second inning with ASC leading 2-1.

Niagara CCC scored three runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to regain their lead en route to a 7-5 victory over Alfred State on Tuesday.  The second game of the doubleheader was suspended in the second inning with ASC leading 2-1.

NCCC led 3-0 heading into the 5th inning but ASC exploded for five runs to hold their first lead of the game.  Travis Fenstermaker's (LeRoy) collected a 3-run triple to highlight the inning.  The Thunderwolves rallied right back in their half of inning collecting six hits and scoring three runs to take a 6-5 lead.  NCCC added an insurance run in the 6th and stranded the tying runner on base when they recorded the final out.

JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) led the Pioneers with a 3 for 3 day while Fenstermaker was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.  The Pioneers collected 12 walks on the day and stranded 12 runners on base.

Alfred State falls to 10-10 on the season and 6-7 in Region III Division III play while the #3 ranked Niagara is now 19-2 overall and 9-0 in RIII DIII play.

The Pioneers and Thunderwolves will continue their series on Thursday when they meet again at Bolivar Richburg for an 11 a.m. start.  The teams will pick up the game that was suspended in the 2nd inning and then play a 7-inning contest.
