Several new faculty and staff members have joined the Alfred State College community.

Among the new hires are faculty members Betty Bedner, Sean Haggerty, Dr. Laura McDermott, Cynthia Paxhia, and Dr. Philip Schroeder, and staff members Brandy Avery, Mark Cragg, Joseph Kubinski, Patrick Lesswing, Erica Matteson, Stephen Schnorr, Deena Smith, LeAnne St. Gelais, and Myron Wilson.

Bedner, of Coopers Plains, has been hired as an assistant professor of nursing. Prior to joining the ASC faculty, Bedner worked as a visiting assistant professor of nursing at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

Bedner holds a master of science degree in nursing from Regis University (Denver) and a BS in nursing from Roberts Wesleyan College, Rochester. She is currently enrolled in a PhD program in nursing with the University of Phoenix School of Advanced Studies.

Bedner is a member of the National League for Nursing.

The Erie, PA, native is married to Ted Bedner; they are the parents of Keely and Logan.

Sean HaggertyHaggerty, of Wellsville, has joined the Residential Life area. She holds an AS in human services from Alfred State College.

St. Gelais, formerly of Liverpool (NY), has been hired as a residence director where she will have oversight of the operations and safety of MacKenzie North.

Prior to joining the ASC community, St. Gelais served as an academic counselor at Syracuse University; she also served as a research and assessment graduate assistant at Syracuse University. Additionally, St. Gelais was an orientation program coordinator at SUNY Oswego.

The Pulaski Junior/Senior High School graduate holds an MS in higher education from Syracuse University and a BA in psychology from SUNY Oswego.

Wilson, of Salamanca, has been hired as a janitor in Facilities Services. The Salamanca High School graduate is the son of Myron Sr. and Carolyn Wilson of Salamanca. He and his wife Julia are the parents of Jesse, Devan, Dakoda, Brooke, and Hayli.
