Men's Soccer Wins, Advances to Finals

The Alfred State College men's soccer team advanced to the Region III Division III finals with a 1-0 victory over #3 SUNY Delhi.  The Pioneers, ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, improve to 14-3 on the season and will take on the #1 seeded Herkimer CCC in the finals on Sunday

The Alfred State College men's soccer team advanced to the Region III Division III finals with a 1-0 victory over #3 SUNY Delhi.  The Pioneers, ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, improve to 14-3 on the season and will take on the #1 seeded Herkimer CCC in the finals on Sunday.

Koya Takadama (Soma, Japan) netted the lone goal of the game with 1:12 remaining in the first half.  Neither team could put one in the second half as the Pioneers defense recorded its eighth straight shutout.

Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) made nine saves in net as he recorded his tenth shutout.

The Pioneers will take on Herkimer, who downed #4 Mohawk Valley CC 4-0 in the other semifinal, at 1 p.m.  ASC and the Generals did not play in the regular season.

Alfred State last won a Region III Championship in 1989 and has won two Region III Championships in program history (1986).
