Men Win Erie Invite, Women finish 4th

The Alfred State College men's swim team won the team title as they opened up 2009 at the Erie CC Invitational.  The women's team finished 4th.

The Alfred State College men's swim team won the team title as they opened up 2009 at the Erie CC Invitational.  The women's team finished 4th.

Aaron Mychack (Lansing) and Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) won three individuals events each.  Mycack won the 50 free (23.47), the 100 free (52.09), and the 200 butterfly (2:21.13) while Kozlowski won the the 400 IM (4:46.98), the 200 backstroke (2:22.75), and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.08).

Kevin Minderlein (Mullica Hill, NJ) was a double-winner.  He won the 1650 free (20:40.49) and the 500 free (5:57.26) while Phillip Valenta (Maine Endwell) won the 200 free (2:05.47) and was 2nd in the 200 backstroke (2:27.55)

The 800 free relay team of Austin Ingerick (Canandaigua), Josiah Halbohm (Bemus Point), Cory Roberts, and Minderlein won in a time of 9:06.29 while the 400 medley relay team of Valenta, Nathan Forrest (Royalton Hartland), Mychack, and Kozlowski won with a time of 4:05.51.

On the women's side, Jessica Chan (New Hyde Park) was 2nd in the 100 free (1:02.48) and 3rd in the 400 IM (5:41.74) while Heather Sears (Letchworth) was 5th in the 100 free (1:06.67) and 8th in the 50 free (30.21).

The men scored 437 points on the day, 158 points ahead of 2nd place Herkime CCC.  The women scored 58 points.

The Pioneers are back in action next Saturday when they travel to the SUNY Delhi Invitational.  Action is scheduled for 1 p.m.
