Alfred State College football players Xavier Makell (Baltimore, MD) and Obi Ezemma (Queens) have earned weekly honors following solid performances on Friday night at Cornell University.  Makell was named the Region III male athlete of the week while Ezemma was named the NFC special teams player of the week.

Makell was a force in the running game on Friday night vs. Cornell JV.  He carried the ball 29 times for 195 yards and a score (1 yard dive).  He had a long 23 yards and averaged 6.7 yards per carry.  On the year he has 439 yards and three scores (87.8 yards/game).

Ezemma made a big special teams play to keep the Pioneers in the ball game.  Ezemma came around the edge of the Cornell punting unit and blocked the punt.  He then recovered the loose ball in the end zone for the score.  Ezemma is the third Pioneer (second special teamer) to be honored by the NFC.

Alfred State fell behind early versus Cornell and their comeback attempt came up short, 33-19.  ASC has this weekend off before traveling to Hudson Valley on October 17.
