The Alfred State College volleyball team finished 2nd as they opened their 2011 season at the ASC Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers finished 3-2 on the day and fell in a tight match to Butler (PA)  CCC in the finals 2-1.

The Alfred State College volleyball team finished 2nd as they opened their 2011 season at the ASC Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers finished 3-2 on the day and fell in a tight match to Butler (PA)  CCC in the finals 2-1.

ASC opened pool play with a 25-15, 25-19 win over Mohawk Valley CC.  They led Butler CCC early in set one but fell 22-25, 19-25.  In their final match of pool play, ASC downed defending Region III champion Herkimer CC 25-16, 25-8 to advance to the semifinals.

In the semfinals, ASC played a solid match vs. Nassau CC and advanced to the finals 25-23, 25-15.  In the finals in a rematch with Butler, ASC took set one 25-17 and held a big lead in set two but BCCC rallied and took set two 23-25 and won the deciding game 8-15.

Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) led the Lady Pioneers with 26 kills on the day and 12 blocks.  Mandy Bush (Altoona, PA) passed out 76 assists and hada 20 digs.  Kara Anderson (Wayne) led ASC with 41 digs, Meghan Kraus (Trumansburg) had 25 digs, 23 kills, and nine aces, Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) chipped in 36 digs and 21 kills, and Mishaya Tuttle (Campbell Savona) finished with 36 digs and seven aces.

Bush and Anderson were named to the All-Tournament team along with Nassau's Taylor Garrett, Mercyhurst North East's Shelby Glenn, and Butler's Samantha Sharpless, Christine Farmer, and Daniell Lloyd.  Lloyd was named the MVP.

The blue & gold open up WNYAC play on Tuesday night when they host Genesee CC at the Orvis Activities Center beginning at 6 p.m.
