The #6 seeded Alfred State College volleyball team finished 1-2 in pool play at the Region III Division III Championships on Saturday.  The Lady Pioneers finish their 2009 campaign with a 20-14 overall record.

The #6 seeded Alfred State College volleyball team finished 1-2 in pool play at the Region III Division III Championships on Saturday.  The Lady Pioneers finish their 2009 campaign with a 20-14 overall record. 

The Pioneers fell 25-19, 23-25, 14-25 to #3 Corning CC in their first match of pool play, fell in three close matches to #2 Erie CC, 23-25, 21-25, 23-25, and then defeated #7 Monroe CC, 16-25, 25-22, 25-15.

Versus Corning, Rachel Hale (Batavia) led the way with seven kills while Brittany Haines (Salamanca) and Kelley Dumbleton (Warsaw) each added six kills.  Haines also passed out 19 assists and had five kills.  Kelly McDermott (Webster Thomas) and Heather Gerace (Avon) each had eight digs while Chrissy Nolan (Niagara Wheatfield) finished with three aces.

Hale finished with 11 kills, three digs, two blocks, and two aces versus Erie while Dumbleton and Michelle Marinich (Chenango Forks) each chipped in seven kills.  Haines passed out 21 assists and had 13 digs, McDermott had 18 digs, and Nolan registered 11 digs and three aces.

The blue & gold reached the 20-win plateau with the victory over Monroe.  Dumbleton had a season high 17 kills and five digs to lead the way.  Hale finished with seven kills and five digs, Haines had 32 assists and nine digs, and McDermott had 13 digs and three aces.  Nolan added ten digs and three aces.

The Lady Pioneers have played in the Region III Tournament the past six years and have 20 or more wins in the past four years and five of the last six.
