The Alfred State College women's basketball team squeezed past Jamestown CC 50-45 in a game where neither team could get the offense going.  ASC improves to 13-6 (4-2 WNYAC) on the year while JCC falls to 12-10.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team squeezed past Jamestown CC 50-45 in a game where neither team could get the offense going.  ASC improves to 13-6 (4-2 WNYAC) on the year while JCC falls to 12-10.

Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) and Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) combined to score 36 of the Lady Pioneers 50 points on the day.  Smith recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds while McLaughlin finished with 16 points. 

Lacey Grove led the Jayhawks with 13 points while Kari Barmore finished with 11 points and 12 boards.

Jamestown led throughout the 1st half but held just a 23-22 lead at halftime.  JCC led 41-40 with 4:37 remaining before Smith connected on two foul shots.  After trading turnovers, McLaughlin made it 44-41 when she connected on a jumper.  Torlanda Poindexter hit a flying lay-up with 2:35 remaining to make it a one-point game once again, 44-43, but Smith hit two more foul shots to get the lead back to three.  Brianna Colburn hit two foul shots to cut the lead to one again but once again Smith answered by hitting two more foul shots.  Jamestown was unable a three-pointer off in the final seconds and Hillary York (Canisteo Greenwood) grabbed the rebound and hit two foul shots with four seconds remaining to seal the victory.

A-State shot just 27.3% (18 for 66) from the field, 29% (2 for 9) from three, and 80% (12 for 15) from the foul line while Jamestown shot 30.9% (17 for 55) from the field, 25% (2 for 8) from three, and just 56.3% (9 for 16) from the foul line.  JCC also turned the ball over 29 times compared to the Pioneers turnovers.
